Wild Land Fire Coverage in Real Time: InciWeb.org
InciWeb.org is a great resource for anybody trying to stay up to date on wildfires locally, or across the nation. From the InciWeb.org website:
“InciWeb is an interagency wildland fire incident information management system. The system was developed with two primary missions: The first was to provide a standardized reporting tool for the Public Affairs community during the course of wildland fire incidents. The second was to provide the public a single source of information related to active wildland fire information.”
Fire information is updated almost in real time, and can be sorted by forestry unit, state, percent containment, time of update, or acreage. The site includes RSS feeds to stay on top of the latest national news, news by state, or even the latest news from a partiular fire. You can even download a KML file of all the incidents for use with Google Earth!
