And it’s pretty darn cool too. If you’ve ever wondered what monster bucks might be patrolling your hunting property while you’re at work, with family, in the bath tub, cleaning out the garage… Now you can. WatchTheDeer.com can place a remote controlled video camera on your property to see what you’re missing while you’re away. There’s a number of packages available, all are viewable with a regular internet connection.

This just in… I can now fly fish from my desk job! Real World Fly Fishing, while isn’t really real world, looks like a whole bunch of fun. It’s an interactive program that allows you to virtually fish almost 500 locations. You pick your fly, do your cast, and then bragg about it at the end. Hopefully it can teach me something too, since I get zeroed too often when I break out the old Orvis.

In case you couldn’t see the trees outside your office window, or like in my case, you have now windows in your office, you can now track the trees changing color in your backyard or anywhere in the U.S. thanks to Weather.com’s fall foliage map.

Ever tried renting a boat bare back and finding the big fish, or tried hunting out of state? Well now you can ask somebody in your dream spot to take you hunting or fishing, and maybe do the same for somebody looking to get out in your neck of the woods.
Introducing OutdoorsmanExchange.com
Upload what you want to do, and what you can provide for only $40 a year. Interesting concept, I’ll give an update a little later on down the road.

Last summer, I had the great joy of relaxing in a hot spring in Costa Rica. I used to think that I had to travel to some far off, exotice place to take in nature’s hot tubs. They’re all over the place! Check out USA Hot Springs to see where they are near you.

First place I’ve found that plots USGS topography data on Google Maps. If only we could add trails to it, or KML files, etc. EarthTools.org can also be used to find distance, sunrise, sunset, elevation, and local time. You can even link to a specific map, so it will pull up a specific view with contours already plotted.

InciWeb.org is a great resource for anybody trying to stay up to date on wildfires locally, or across the nation. From the InciWeb.org website:
“InciWeb is an interagency wildland fire incident information management system. The system was developed with two primary missions: The first was to provide a standardized reporting tool for the Public Affairs community during the course of wildland fire incidents. The second was to provide the public a single source of information related to active wildland fire information.”
Fire information is updated almost in real time, and can be sorted by forestry unit, state, percent containment, time of update, or acreage. The site includes RSS feeds to stay on top of the latest national news, news by state, or even the latest news from a partiular fire. You can even download a KML file of all the incidents for use with Google Earth!

Wade (admin & Greatoutsmores author) sent me this one over the weekend, and was something I thought about trying to do a few months ago. Then I remembered… I don’t know the first thing about web programming, marketing, and I don’t have any money to market that kind of thing. I guess that’s why I blog here, instead of my own domain name. At any rate, Outdoorzy seems to be gaining a foothold in the social networking niche, and appears to have an active and vibrant community. It caters to all sorts of outdoors activities, allows people to upload trip reports, and find people interested in the same activities. Kudos to them.
