Now everyone can tag The Big Post Map, whether they blog here or not!

About the map
Anybody can now tag our Big Post Map with a link & summary of their trip reports, news, and anything else that's locational. It doesn't matter if you blog on OutdoorsBlogger, have a Blogspot Blog, or even if you use MySpace or Outdoorzy to publish. All outdoors content written about a place is welcome.

How to place tags
1.) Sign up for a user name, if you haven't already.
2.) Log in to your account.
3.) At the to left, hover over where it says "OutdoorsBlogger.com" in big text to switch to the Big Post Map admin menu. Click "Write" to post to the map.
4.) Enter your content. Select a title, enter a blurb about your trip report, fishing story, etc. and don't forget to link to your article in the post. Lastly, make sure to enter an address, city, or location name in the Geocoder box & hit enter to Geocode.
5.) Submit for review & that's it!

Suggestions for usage
*Use a permalink or specific page. Please don't link to your homepage if the content at the tagged location won't be there forever.

*No address available? Geocode a nearby city, and click on the map marker - you can move it with your mouse.

*While you could place a large amount of text in the Map Tag post, it will probably work out better just placing a blurb & link back to the original content.

*Categorize! Check a category for your content, if you don't see what fits - let us know here so we can accommodate it.

*Tag it! Enter the location's name, activity type, and/or person involved. It will help your tag get noticed by people and search engines.

*Images - we're allowing non-hosted images in Map Tag posts, but please try to keep their size as small as possible as the map window bubbles are only 200 pixels wide.

Last and foremost - let us know what you think!
We're currently testing this project, please let us know what we can do to improve it.

You can now use FeedBurner to track your RSS subscriptions & send your posts directly to subscribers by email.

SET UP FEEDBURNER ACCOUNT
1.) Setup a free FeedBurner account by entering your RSS feed address into the box half way down the page. Your blog's feed is http://outdoorsblogger.com/YOURBLOGHERE/feed

2.) After setting up the feed (it should say congrats!), scroll to the bottom & click next. Check the box for Clickthrough tracking if you like, and then hit next again.
*** You won't need to install anything! ***

TO ACTIVATE EMAIL SUBSCRIPTIONS:
1.) Once in your account, click the "Publicize" link, and then scroll down to "Email Subscriptions" on the left. Leave "Feedburner" highlighted, and then click activate at the bottom. Then click on the next couple subtabs, under Email Subscriptions. Set the options such as subject line, delivery time, etc.

2.) Copy & paste the LINK code into a sidebar widget. Copy (Ctrl+C) the 2nd text box code, marked "Subscription Link Code" and log into your OutdoorsBlogger blog. Go to "Presentation" and then click the subtab "Widgets." Near the bottom, find an available widget marked "Text" and drag it into your sidebar. Once in the sidebar, there will be a gray box for options, click it, and paste (Ctrl+P) the code into the big box.

Lastly, don't forget to click "Save Changes" and check to see your new Email Subscriptions link on your blog.

TO ACTIVATE A FEEDBURNER FEED
1.) From your FeedBurner account, click "Publicize" and then choose "Chicklet Chooser" from the submenu. Choose the chicklet of your taste, and then follow the Text Widget instructions above.

Over the last couple months, two blog directories have proven greatly beneficial in driving traffic to the main site & members' blogs as well.

BlogCatalog.com

MyBlogLog.com

I would encourage anybody interested in driving more traffic to blog to sign up for accounts here at the very least. Networking with other bloggers with similar interests here will go much further, and be done by adding friends, joining neighborhoods, and joing groups.

If you want to set up widgets for these sites on your own blog, here's how:

BlogCatalog: Add the widget to your sidebar in "Presentation" --> "Widgets" and then edit the options to reflect your account.

MyBlogLog: Under the "Plugins" menu, click "MyBlogLog Configuration" and set the options.

We've added the ability for our bloggers to place their own Google Adsense ads in their blogs. Here's how to do it:

***Important: You must have a widget ready theme in place***

1.) Sign up for a Google Adsense Account if you haven't already.

2.) Log into Adsense, click on the Adsense Setup tab, and go through the various options to get the kind, size, and color ad you want.

3.) You should have a code snippet at the bottom, looking something like this:

<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "pub-1234567891011";
google_ad_width = 728;
google_ad_height = 90;
google_ad_format = "728x90_as";
google_ad_type = "text_image";
google_ad_channel = "";
google_color_border = "0066CC";
google_color_bg = "E6E6E6";
google_color_link = "940F04";
google_color_text = "333333";
google_color_url = "CCCCCC";
//-->
</script>
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">
</script>

Copy and paste this information into a text editor like notepad or even MS Word.

4.) From the Admin panel, click "Presentation" and then "Widgets" from the submenu.

5.) Drag the widget labeled "Adsense" into the sidebar column.

6.) Click on the options button on the Adsense widget (its a blue and grey square with three black lines, immediately to the right of "Adsense"

7.) Enter you're information from the copied code snippet into the corresponding fields. You're going to want to copy and paste the info between the quotes on each line, and add a title if you so choose.

That's it, you can now start making money from your blog!

It should be on the second row from the top, near the right side. The link & unlink buttons are between the Anchor symbol, and the picture of a tree or shrub or whatever it is.

Copy and past this, it's the actual address, so you can see what I'm talkin' about:

http://outdoorsblogger.com/thewildtype/wp-content/plugins/miwa-editor-mu/js/tinymce/themes/advanced/images/link.gif

Also, I'll take a screen shot and email it to you. Remember, it doesn't light up unless you have text and/or a picture already highlighted.

That is a tricky one, so here it goes...
Unfortunately, we can't allow copying and pasting of code yet (for security reasons) so here's how you trick it by using the blog roll:

So blogskinny, or any other directory for that matter may give you the following code:

<img src="http://www.blogskinny.com/Score/?u=2487_70484a77cc4a" alt="Blog Skinny" title="Bloggers grow traffic with free tools from blogskinny" />

Name field: put Blog Skinny

<a href is for address, so put: http://www.blogskinny.com/ in the address field

In the description field: Bloggers grow traffic with free tools from blogskinny

Image Address is the important part, it contains a unique image that tracks your blog. Look for the address after <img src="
------It should look like this: http://www.blogskinny.com/Score/?u=2487_70484a77cc4a

***remember, don't put any quotes into your admin panel blogroll editor****

Hope this helps...

Biggs, I think you're talking about changing your blog's theme. This will change the layout and header image at the top, etc.

From the Admin panel, go to "Presentation" and pick a theme. Additionally, you can pick widgets to go in your side bar if you like by clicking "widgets"

You can also set the size of the video in your post. Do something like this: [ youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jjgk1-ac1I 150 100] (without the space between bracket and y, though).

First off, make sure you have the Miwa Editor Plugin turned on. Then, highlight the words you want to be linked in the editor, and find the symbol that looks like a chain link (should be next to the anchor symbol). Hit it & a dialogue should appear, and it's all downhill from there my friend. Please note that you have to have something highlighted in order to make it work.

all,

great to see support forums! bravo! i couldn't really find a category for this one and it is so simple it is embarassing: how do i link in a post without having to write out the complete url? mr. outsmores does this often inside of a sentence and the word is colored blue and takes you straight to the linked page. again, the forum is a great idea as i have so much to learn!

We just went live with the OutdoorsBlogger Big Post Map. Thought I'd give you all an idea of how to geo-tag your posts so they show up on the map, and also open a discussion on how to improve the mapping system.

1.)In the admin menu, go to "plugins" and click on "GeoPress" to activate it.

2.) Now, from the Admin menu, click "GeoPress." Under the options you'll have to copy & paste the following code snippets:

GoogleMaps Key:

ABQIAAAA1ruQnmb77ua5Xil-oP0TDhRyejyNh-j_YX8K5iqBjInior1ephQi9b7Z5im1kXwjC0EHYVEOTpbm0Q

Yahoo App ID:

xUorNn3V34HGUGZJrbYr8p_IoHIoDCKd7urM77ro7BcPwjbquWQDwm4oPl5aF6w9FREcNeJJ

3.)When editing, or writing a new post: look for the "Location" dialog below the "Save" button. Enter an address, city/state combo, or zip code, then hit enter.

4.)A map of the location should pop up, and if it's where you want it, save the post as normal.

5.)That's it! The marker should immediately show up on the map, but the post title and link should take about a minute or so to populate.

Please keep in mind that I had to hack all sorts of stuff in order to get GeoPress to work on a blogging community, so please report any trouble or bugs that you may encounter. Cheers.
